Insulin Resistance: Could Processed Foods Be The Culprit?

I remember being in my nurse practitioner’s office and we were looking at my meals on My Fitness Pal in relation to blood sugar dropping and tachycardia.


She gently and lovingly told me that it looks like, for some reason, my body doesn’t do well with processed foods or dairy. 


I knew in my spirit she was right.


Then I may have argued for a second, or asked questions like “but what about healthy brand’s bar” or “healthy brand’s x”. 


She gave me a great lesson that day. Just because they slapped healthy labels on it, doesn’t mean it’s healthy. And once that food has been processed in a plant, the chemical structure has changed and, honestly, you don’t really know what’s been done to anything in a manufacturing plant, no matter how great their labels are. 


Oh. Yes, that resonates.


It’s hard to have conversations like that and not think my body is broken or different. 


It’s the story of my life since childhood. 

All the other kids eat way more junk, worse junk and I have a little bit of the not so bad junk and my body screams.


I have two ways to look at this.


I’m a victim.


Or…


My body is proactively saving me from a an unhealthy reality as I age.


I get comments by followers, friends, people in the community who have watched my story and they tell me all the time how amazed they are at my will power. 


I’m really not that special.


I don’t have secret powers of willpower.


I just don’t like feeling like I'm in agonizing pain and can't focus or concentrate.


As my coach and I discovered, I have 0 wiggle room. 0. Zilch. None.


I can either have the little minor cheats and be debilitated, and experience horrific physical pain, tachycardia, brain fog, not be able to focus, be extremely fatigued, feel anxious, have panic attacks…


Or I can stay within my boundaries and have more energy, be emotionally regulated, be healthier, have balanced blood sugar, and have more focus.


It is what it is.


I’m not special. I just really don’t like feeling sick. 


As I continue on this journey of life, I will continue to check in with my body, what does it need, are there emotions or beliefs or genetics that need to be shifted? What does my body need nutritionally? What does it need socially? Am I playing enough? 


And then I will continue to do my best to take care of it.
