How to Create a Relaxing Weekend Routine That Honors Your Body's Needs

Oh, sweet friend, let’s talk about weekends. They used to be my go-go-go time, trying to cram in everything I didn’t get to during the week. But after years of dealing with insulin resistance, Epstein-Barr, SIBO, and PCOS, I’ve learned something that changed my life: weekends aren’t for doing more—they’re for listening more.

Listening to my body, my heart, and what I truly need has become my weekend mantra. And let me tell you, it’s a game-changer.

Movement and Rest: The Perfect Balance

My weekends always start with balance in mind. I love to move my body, whether it’s a gentle walk in the crisp morning air or some slow stretches to wake up my muscles. But I also give myself permission to rest, and I mean real rest—the kind where you cozy up on the couch and just breathe.

This balance has been key to managing my health. Some days, my body feels like it needs a little more movement, and other days, a nap is non-negotiable. Spoiler alert: Sunday naps are now my favorite guilty pleasure—and I’m totally okay with it!

Nourishing Meals Made Easy

Weekends call for easy meals that don’t require hours in the kitchen. I keep things simple and comforting while sticking to my gluten-free and dairy-free lifestyle. Here are a few of my go-to weekend meal ideas:

  • Rotisserie Chicken with Steamed Veggies: Pair with avocado slices or gluten-free crackers for a quick, satisfying meal.

  • Turkey Sausage & Sweet Potato Hash: Sauté diced sweet potatoes, onions, and turkey sausage in a skillet for a hearty breakfast or lunch.

  • Stuffed Avocados: Fill avocado halves with shredded chicken, a dollop of dairy-free pesto, and a sprinkle of hemp seeds.

  • Zucchini Noodles with Vegan Pesto: Toss together in minutes for a fresh, vibrant dinner.

  • Smoothie Bowls: Blend frozen berries, spinach, almond milk, and protein powder, then top with flaxseeds and a drizzle of almond butter.

I also make sure to stay hydrated with lots of water and maybe a splash of lemon or Solex Gold minerals. Keeping my energy balanced is just as much about what I drink as what I eat.

Creating Space for Stillness

One thing I’ve learned in my health journey is the importance of stillness. For me, that looks like journaling in the morning sun, blogging when inspiration strikes, or diving into a good book or painting project.

And yes, I do take a little break from social media on the weekends. It’s amazing how much clarity and calmness I feel when I step away from the endless scroll. It’s a reminder to focus on what’s in front of me, not what’s on a screen.

Staying in Rhythm

Even though weekends feel a little more laid-back, I stick to my regular sleep and wake times as much as possible. I’ve found that this consistency helps my body feel supported and keeps my energy steady.

But let’s be real—I do indulge in a little TV catch-up. Whether it’s a new series or a comfort show I’ve watched a million times, it’s a sweet little indulgence that helps me relax and unwind.

Listening to Your Body

More than anything, my weekends are about tuning into what my body needs. Some weekends, it’s all about rest and recharging. Other weekends, I feel inspired to write or paint or get lost in a project. The key is giving myself grace to do what feels right in the moment without guilt or pressure to “do it all.”

And as someone who has walked through the challenges of insulin resistance, Epstein-Barr, SIBO, and PCOS, I know how important it is to honor my body’s limits. Listening to my body isn’t just self-care—it’s a way of life.

What About You?

How do you spend your weekends, friend? Are you giving yourself permission to rest and recharge, or are you tempted to cram it all in? I’d love to hear your favorite ways to unwind and what’s been working for you lately.

Drop your thoughts in the comments—and if you need me, I’ll be here sipping my tea, painting, and letting my body lead the way.
