"A dream? What is that you say? I'm barely surviving taking care of all the kids needs, getting meals cooked, the laundry is piled high, I don't know if I'm coming or going, and some days, I I just want to lie in bed all day."
Right, you have been working so long so hard to take care of everyone else, to be there for everyone else, working the JOB, making sure bills are paid, food is on the table, kids have what they need. You are surviving moving from one day to the next on repeat.
You are there for everyone else but are you there for yourself?
Quite possibly you don’t remember how to show up for you and be there for you. On most days, is it hard to even know who you are anymore?
Do you notice you live in flight, freeze or fawning?
Do you notice you feel disconnected from your body, your emotions, or even God at times?
Being touched irritates you because you have been touched physically or energetically ALL DAY LONG.
You don’t even know who you are anymore.
You have become a role: a parent, a partner, a job title, a family member, the PTA parent, the community caretaker.
But who are you?
What is your identity?
Does it scare you to stop and pause and explore that question?
Are you afraid of who you might find on the inside?
Does it feel too exhausting to even think about this?
If this is difficult or traumatizing to explore, let me meet you where you are, and let’s start where it feels comfortable.
Answer these questions:
What is a happy childhood memory you have?
Was it alone? Or with someone?
What was your favorite activity of play when you were a child?
What was your favorite meal as a child?
Who was your favorite person as a child?
What was your favorite color as a child?
If you are struggling to answer these questions, ask yourself this:
“What is so scary about these answers?”
Now, start writing whatever comes to mind.
Now that you have begun to answer, take some paper and pen and start scribbling all over the page. You can even scribble with your eyes closed. Scribble until you feel the release.
Now, ask yourself this:
“What if it wasn’t scary to know these answers? What if I were safe as I discover these answers?”
Now, say out loud, “I am safe.”
You have done amazing work today. Be proud. I'm high fiving you right now!
